This range is for riders who service their own bikes and for home mechanics setting up a workstand: bottom bracket and headset tools, chain checkers, bleed kits, greases, lubes, multi-tools and complete tool kits. Park Tool supplies most of the shop tools, with SHIMANO and SRAM service parts and lubes from Muc-Off and Finish Line.

Compatibility is the first check. Bottom bracket tools are sized by notch count and cup diameter, and press-fit standards such as BB30 or BB90 need matching presses. Hydraulic brakes need the right fluid and bleed kit for the brand: Shimano uses mineral oil, SRAM uses mineral oil on Maven and DB8 and DOT fluid on many other models, and the two fluids must never be mixed. A chain checker soon pays for itself, since replacing a worn chain early protects the cassette and chainrings. For trailside fixes, a compact bike multi-tool covers most adjustments.

Bike Tools & Maintenance: frequently asked questions

When should I replace my bike chain?

Measure it with a chain checker. Park Tool recommends replacing a chain at or just before 0.5% wear on 11 and 12 speed drivetrains and 0.75% on 5 to 10 speed. Catching it at that point usually saves the cassette and chainrings.

Can I use DOT brake fluid in Shimano brakes?

No. Shimano hydraulic brakes are designed for mineral oil, and DOT fluid will damage their seals. Always use the fluid printed on the brake lever or caliper, along with that brand's bleed kit.

What tools should a basic home bike kit include?

Start with hex keys, a chain tool, tire levers, a pump and a chain checker, plus lube and grease. Add a torque wrench if you ride carbon parts, and bottom bracket or headset tools when you take on bigger jobs.
