Weighted Vests

Weighted vests and plate carriers for walkers, runners, ruckers and anyone adding load to bodyweight training at home or in the gym.

Fixed or adjustable is the first decision. CAP makes set-weight vests with a slim, reflective cut and a zip phone pocket, plus an adjustable vest with removable packets. Yes4All and RitFit offer adjustable vests, Yes4All also sells curved steel plates in pairs, and WOLF TACTICAL has a quick-release design. Look for weight carried high and close to the torso, straps that stop bounce when you move, and reflective trim if you walk on dark winter mornings. Pair a vest with wrist and ankle weights for more ways to add resistance.

Brands include CAP, miR and Gymnastics Power.

Weighted Vests: frequently asked questions

Should I choose a fixed or adjustable weighted vest?

A fixed vest is slimmer and simpler, which suits walking or running at one load. An adjustable vest with removable packets or plates lets you start light and add weight in small steps, so one vest covers more workouts. Plate pairs such as the Yes4All curved steel plates are also sold separately.

How should a weighted vest fit?

It should sit snug and high on the chest and back, with the weight spread evenly front and back. Tighten the straps so the vest doesn't bounce or shift when you walk briskly or jump. If it rides up or presses on your neck, try another size or style.

How do I clean a weighted vest?

Take out the plates or weight packets first if they are removable. Most neoprene and nylon vests can be hand-washed in cold water with mild soap and air-dried, but follow the care label. Don't put a vest with sewn-in weights in a washer or dryer.
