Which fuel works best for camping in cold weather?

Standard butane canisters lose pressure as temperatures drop toward freezing, so isobutane-propane blends or liquid-fuel stoves are more reliable in Canadian shoulder seasons. Keeping the canister warm in a jacket or sleeping bag before cooking also helps.

Can I cook on a campfire with aluminum pots?

Anodized aluminum and non-stick cookware are designed for stoves and can warp or discolour in direct flames. For campfire cooking, use stainless steel, cast iron or a folding stainless campfire grill set above the coals.

Is it safe to run a camp stove inside a tent?

No. Health Canada warns never to use a camping stove or other fuel-burning appliance inside a tent, camper or other enclosed space because of the risk of carbon monoxide poisoning. Cook outdoors or under an open-sided shelter with plenty of airflow.
