What size bike does my child need?

Measure inseam in socks and compare it with each bike's minimum seat height. Most three- to five-year-olds start on 12- or 14-inch wheels, moving to 16-inch around five to seven and 20-inch around seven to ten, but inseam matters more than age.

When can a child move from a three-wheel scooter to two wheels?

Most children are ready once they can glide on one foot and steer without leaning hard on the handlebar, often between ages five and seven. A two-wheel scooter with a foot brake and adjustable bar lets them grow into it.

Do kids have to wear a helmet on a bike in Canada?

In most provinces, yes. Ontario, Alberta and Manitoba require helmets for cyclists under 18, and BC and all four Atlantic provinces require them for all ages. Ontario also requires them for children riding in a bike carrier or trailer. Quebec, Saskatchewan and the territories have no province- or territory-wide law, though some cities do.
