Camping Chairs & Tables

Car campers, backpackers, cottagers and sideline parents all need somewhere to sit, and this range brings together folding chairs, compact stools and portable camp tables. The main trade-off is packed weight against comfort. Ultralight chairs such as Naturehike's YL05 weigh about 2.4 lb and pack into a small stuff sack, and Helinox's Speed Stool is about 1 lb. For car camping, where weight barely matters, high-back chairs with armrests and cup holders are the more comfortable choice.

Check the rated capacity, which runs from about 225 lb on light tripod stools to 500 lb on oversized padded chairs, and the seat height if getting up from a low chair is hard. For tables, roll-up aluminum tops pack small and handle a hot pot better than MDF tops, and adjustable legs help on sloped sites. Shop camping chairs or camping tables on their own.

Brands include ALEVMOOM, Helinox and VILLEY.

In this range: camping tables and camping stools.

Camping Chairs & Tables: frequently asked questions

Should I buy an ultralight camp chair or a regular folding chair?

If you carry gear on your back or in a canoe, an ultralight chair around 1 kg is worth its lower seat and simpler frame. For car camping and backyard use, a full-size folding chair with a high back and armrests is more comfortable and quicker to set up. Many campers own one of each.

Can I put a camp stove on a camping table?

Aluminum tops tolerate heat better than MDF or fabric tops, and a table rated well above the combined stove and pot weight is more stable. Follow the stove maker's instructions on clearance and surfaces, and set the table on level ground before cooking.

How do I stop a camp chair sinking into sand or soft ground?

Choose a chair with wide feet, or add a footprint such as Helinox's protective ground sheets, made for the Chair One, Chair Zero and Sunset Chair, which spreads the load over a larger area. In a pinch, set the legs on a flat board or a small mat.
