Hockey Training Aids

Most of a player's hands and shot get built away from the rink, and this range is for driveway, basement and backyard sessions between ice times. Stickhandling trainers ("snakes") from ACE Hockey, Better Hockey, GIRISHIP and Hockey Revolution come in standard and elevated 5- and 7-section versions; synthetic ice tiles from Potent Hockey, Better Hockey and Fabbay give a slick surface to shoot from; and rebounders from ACE Hockey, Better Hockey and Mr. Assist send the puck back so a player can practise passing alone. Shooting targets from Top Shelf Targets, EALER and Snipers Edge, Green Biscuit off-ice pucks, foam pucks and orange weighted pucks round it out.

A few things to check before buying. Match the puck to the surface: regular rubber pucks bounce on pavement, so off-ice pucks or ball hockey balls work better outdoors, and foam pucks suit indoor play with younger kids. Measure the floor before ordering tiles, since each pack lists its tile size and square footage. Look at how a rebounder is held in place for your space, and pair the trainer with the right length of hockey stick.
