Hockey Sticks

This collection is as much about getting a stick to the right length as buying a new one. There is a GY Senior one-piece carbon fibre ice stick in flex 75 with a mid kick point, Franklin Sports street sticks with ABS blades (the Ambush Senior, the 40-inch Power Fusion and a youth starter set with two 37-inch Junior sticks), and the Cramer Cosom polyethylene stick for gym floor hockey. The rest are extensions: carbon end plugs from CCM, BLADE SAVER, UICE and Teyva Daily, and wooden butt ends from A&R Sports in 8- and 12-inch Junior and Senior sizes.

Start with length: Bauer suggests a stick that reaches roughly your nose in shoes, or between your chin and bottom lip on skates. An extension has to match the shaft, since Junior plugs are narrower than Senior and some carbon plugs are shaped for specific CCM or Bauer shafts, so check the fit list before gluing. Adding length softens the effective flex and cutting stiffens it. For asphalt play, an ABS blade lasts longer than composite; see ball and street hockey, and finish the knob with hockey tape.
