Universal music enterprises Johnny Cash American II: Unchained LP — Vinyl Pressing, Full-Band Sessions

American II: Unchained [LP] is Johnny Cash’s 1996 follow-up to American Recordings, a vinyl album that pairs Cash’s deep voice with Tom Petty & the Heartbreakers and a diverse set of songwriters for a raw, full-bodied reinterpretation of classic and contemporary material.

Recorded after the momentum of American Recordings, Unchained expands Johnny Cash’s revival by bringing in Tom Petty & the Heartbreakers, plus guest musicians like Marty Stuart, Lindsay Buckingham and Flea. The collection blends originals and covers—from Beck and Chris Cornell to Don Gibson and Jimmie Rodgers—into a cohesive record that balances intimacy and muscular band arrangements. This LP pressing captures the tonal warmth and dynamic range that highlight Cash’s baritone and the band’s organic backing.
