BLACK DIAMOND Capitan Climbing Helmet, Pewter-Black M/L — Adjustable Rear-Dial & Lamp Clips

The BLACK DIAMOND Capitan is a lightweight, adjustable climbing helmet that combines a tough ABS outer shell with a rear-dial suspension and integrated lamp clips for all-day protection on rock and alpine routes.

Built for climbers who need a durable, comfortable helmet that adapts to changing conditions, the Capitan balances impact resistance with breathable fit adjustments. The pewter-black finish gives a low-profile look, while the Medium/Large size fits most adult heads and works with hats or extra layers. It’s designed to stand up to rockfall, scrapes against walls, and repeated use on multi-pitch objectives.

How does the fit system keep the helmet secure during climbs?

Fit is handled by a rear adjustment dial integrated into a suspension cradle that lets you fine-tune tension quickly. The system holds its setting under movement and can be adjusted while wearing gloves or a light hat.

• Rear dial for precise micro-adjustment
• Suspension cradle distributes load evenly around the head
• Room to accommodate knit caps or thin helmetscap layers
• Comfort padding that reduces pressure points on long routes

What protective features does the outer shell provide?

The Capitan uses a hard ABS outer shell engineered to resist dings, abrasion, and repeated contact with rock surfaces. The shell helps protect against falling debris and scrapes while remaining lightweight for long approaches.

• Durable ABS construction for repeated-use environments
• Low-profile shape to reduce snagging on ledges
• Designed to withstand wall contact and minor impacts
• Robust finish that tolerates scuffs without structural compromise

Is the helmet compatible with headlamps and early starts?

Yes — integrated headlamp clips are built into the front of the helmet so you can securely mount a light for pre-dawn starts, descents, or technical alpine moves. Clips keep the beam aligned and stable while climbing.

• Two front lamp clips for stable light attachment
• Maintains lamp alignment during movement
• Works with most compact climbing headlamps
• Hands-free lighting solution ideal for early or late climbs

How does the Capitan perform across seasons and disciplines?

The adjustable fit and breathable cradle make the helmet versatile for sport, trad, and alpine climbing. Its ability to accept thin headwear and stay secure under load means it’s useful from warm summer crags to cool shoulder-season ascents.

• Accommodates hats and light liners for colder conditions
• Light enough for long approaches yet durable for multi-pitch use
• Suitable for gym, sport routes, trad lines, and big-wall efforts
• Pewter-black finish blends into technical, alpine, and urban environments

Who is this for: The BLACK DIAMOND Capitan Helmet in M/L is aimed at committed climbers who want a dependable, easy-to-adjust helmet for regular use. It’s a solid choice for athletes who move between sport, trad, and alpine objectives and need a helmet that withstands repeated contact with rock while offering secure lamp attachment and comfortable all-day wear.
