Gilbert Rugby Training Ball G-TR4000 Sky, Size 3, Triangular Grip and 3-Ply Laminate

The Gilbert G-TR4000 Sky (Size 3) is a heavy-duty training rugby ball with a patented triangular grip pattern, 3-ply laminate panels, and Hydratec moisture protection for superior handling and consistent flight during practice.

Built by Gilbert for club and collegiate training, the G-TR4000 blends new surface technology with a rugged construction aimed at making practice sessions more productive. Its triangular surface texture increases contact area for cleaner catches, while the 3-ply poly-cotton laminate gives the ball added weight and shape retention compared with typical 2-ply practice balls. Waterproof laminations and a durable rubber skin help it resist wear from mud and frequent handling.

How does the triangular grip pattern improve handling?

The patented triangular surface increases the ball’s effective contact area, so fingers meet more textured surface on catches and passes. Players report improved confidence in wet or sweaty conditions because the pattern channels moisture while still offering pronounced texture.

• Triangular texture creates more touch points for secure catches.
• Design helps channel moisture away from central contact zones.
• Consistent grip across the ball surface for predictable handling.

Will this ball withstand regular club or school training?

Yes. The G-TR4000 is hand-stitched and reinforced with Hydratec moisture-barrier materials, making it resilient to repeated use on grass and artificial turf. The rubber outer skin and sturdy stitching reduce seam wear and extend service life during constant drills and contact.

• Hand-stitched panels for reinforced structural integrity.
• Hydratec laminations repel water, mud, and grime.
• Durable rubber surface resists abrasion from heavy practice.

How does the 3-ply construction affect kicking and flight?

The added ply and cotton laminate increase the ball’s weight and firmness, helping it keep shape through long kicks and powerful passes. That fuller profile produces a truer flight path compared with lighter 2-ply training balls, which can deform or wobble more in the air.

• 3-ply poly-cotton laminate supports consistent shape retention.
• Slightly higher weight improves distance and kick predictability.
• Stable flight benefits kickers practicing accuracy and hang time.

How should I care for and inflate the G-TR4000?

The ball ships deflated, so use a standard pump and needle to reach the recommended pressure. After sessions, wipe the surface with a soft cloth, mild detergent, and warm water to keep the grip tacky and remove turf debris.

• Ships deflated — needle and pump required for inflation.
• Clean with cloth, light detergent, and warm water to preserve grip.
• Store away from extreme heat or direct sunlight to protect laminates.

Who is this for: The Gilbert G-TR4000 Sky (Size 3) is aimed at coaches, club teams, and serious youth or school programs that need a durable, high-performance practice ball. It suits players focused on handling drills, kicking accuracy, and match-simulating training where a longer-lasting, more consistent ball makes practices more effective.
