JYINCPED Keel Guard is a 6-foot, 5-inch-wide polymer strip with 3M adhesive designed to protect boat keels from scrapes, rocks, ramps and everyday wear when beaching or trailering.
This keel protector is made for recreational fiberglass and many aluminum boats — including bass boats, ski boats, runabouts and jon boats — to reduce damage from shallow launches, rocky ramps and contact with underwater hazards. Constructed from a thick, flexible polymer, the strip conforms to gentle chines and strakes and uses high-strength 3M tape for a long-lasting bond when the hull is properly prepared. Read compatibility notes and installation tips before fitting to get the best adhesion and avoid common mistakes.
The polymer material absorbs shocks and shields the keel from scrapes and abrasion that occur during beaching, loading and launching. Instead of the hull or keel taking repeated nicks and gouges, the guard takes the wear and can be replaced far more cheaply than structural repairs.
The 6-foot guard is sized for boats up to about 18 feet and works on most fiberglass hulls and some aluminum hulls with modest chines or strakes. It will not adhere well to low-surface-energy plastics (typical of most kayaks/canoes), raised welded keels deeper than 1/4 inch, or catamarans with very sharp 90° keel turnups.
Prepare the hull by repairing any damage, cleaning, etching and priming the surface; then stick the strip using the supplied strong 3M adhesive tape. Position the guard so it sits 4–6 inches above the boat's resting waterline and avoid contact with bunks, rollers or bow stops until the adhesive fully bonds.
The standard piece is six feet long and is recommended for boats up to 18 feet; you can extend protection by adding additional strips end-to-end but the guard should not be shortened. Extending coverage beyond the keel’s lowest point helps prevent snagging when beaching or loading.
Who this is for: The JYINCPED keel guard is aimed at boat owners who regularly launch from ramps, beach small craft or trailer frequently and want a cost-effective way to protect the keel and hull edge. It's ideal for anglers with bass or jon boats, recreational skiers, and small-boat owners who need robust, replaceable protection without structural modification. If your hull is made from LSE plastics, has a heavily reinforced welded keel, or a sharp catamaran profile, choose a different protection method that suits those construction types.
Q: Can I install the keel guard on an aluminum jon boat?
A: Yes, it fits many aluminum jon boats if the keel profile is not heavily reinforced and gaps are sealed; measure first.
Q: How high above the waterline should I apply the keel guard?
A: Apply the guard 4–6 inches above the resting waterline for optimal adhesion and to reduce peeling.
