This anchor rode combines resilient nylon cordage with a short length of corrosion-resistant chain to give a balanced mix of stretch, strength and abrasion protection. The rope uses upgraded nylon fibers braided into a classic three-strand construction that handles shock loads and resists rot and mildew. The included galvanized chain adds weight at the bitter end so the anchor sets more easily and protects the rope where it encounters chafe at the bow.
The 3/8-inch, three-strand nylon has a rated breaking load of approximately 3,373 pounds, giving a safety margin appropriate for many recreational craft when used correctly. Nylon’s elasticity helps absorb sudden pulls, reducing peak forces transmitted to cleats and anchors.
The included 1/4" x 6.6 ft galvanized chain is intended to add bite and reduce wear at the anchor point, but it is not suitable for windlass capstans or gypsies. It serves as a short chain leader rather than a full-length mechanical windlass chain.
This product comes in three standard lengths—50, 100, and 150 feet—so you can select the amount of rode that matches your vessel size, local waters, and typical anchoring depth. For coastal or deepwater anchoring, more scope is usually better; in shallow protected waters, a shorter rode can be sufficient.
Upgraded nylon balances abrasion resistance, stretch, and durability, making it a practical choice for anchor rodes that must absorb shock while resisting environmental wear. It’s easier to handle than some high-modulus fibers and typically more cost-effective.
Who is this for? The MARINE SYSTEM 3/8" anchor line with galvanized chain suits weekend boaters, anglers, and small-boat owners who want a dependable, economical rode that balances strength with stretch. Choose the length that matches your boat and anchoring habits; this setup is ideal for manual anchoring, tender duty, or as a backup rode. If you require windlass-ready chain or a specialized low-stretch synthetic rode for professional applications, consider pairing this rope with appropriate hardware or selecting a different chain specification.
Q: Is the chain included suitable for a windlass?
A: No. The 1/4" x 6.6 ft galvanized chain is intended as a short leader and is not compatible with windlass gypsies.
Q: Can I splice or knot this 3-strand nylon rope?
A: Yes. The three-strand nylon construction is easy to splice and ties reliably with common knots used for anchoring and mooring.
