MASTIFF GEARS Folding Survival Shovel, Folding Shovel Classic w/Pick, Nordic Beech Wooden Handle, 1050 Carbon Steel, 23 in

Designed in Ontario and built for rugged use, this classic folding shovel combines a 1050 carbon-steel blade with a Nordic beechwood handle to deliver a balance of strength, comfort and portability. At roughly 23 inches when unfolded and weighing under 1 kg, it trims weight without sacrificing the bite or durability you need for campsite tasks, trailwork, vehicle recovery or beach digging. The shovel’s simple quick-open lock and asymmetrically serrated edge make it a versatile tool for chopping roots, digging trenches, cutting through compacted sand and handling emergency earthmoving jobs.

How does this shovel perform for digging and chopping tasks?

The hardened 1050 carbon-steel blade is sharpened and reinforced to handle digging, cutting and light prying. A multi-purpose side blade and serrated section let you saw through small branches and break up packed soil without switching tools.

• Reinforced blade edge for digging compacted ground and sand.
• Asymmetric serration designed for efficient wood cutting and sawing.
• 1050 carbon steel offers a strong balance of hardness and toughness.
• Pick option (Classic w/Pick) for breaking hard surfaces and rocky soil.

How portable and user-friendly is the folding mechanism?

The shovel unfolds quickly with a simple, steel locking mechanism that minimizes user setup time. Its tri-fold form factor packs down compactly for backpacks, vehicle kits or beach gear while staying more than 27% lighter than many comparable folding tools.

• Quick-open hinge for fast deployment in field conditions.
• Robust steel lock reduces wobble and accidental folding.
• Compact folded length fits most gear compartments and storage pockets.
• Lightweight profile (about 900 g) reduces carry burden on long trips.

Will the wooden handle hold up to heavy use and rough terrain?

The Nordic beechwood handle is chosen for its natural shock absorption and grip comfort, reducing hand fatigue during repetitive digging or chopping. Wood also provides a secure, tactile feel that synthetic handles sometimes lack, while remaining durable under rugged outdoor conditions.

• Nordic beechwood absorbs vibration for more comfortable use.
• Ergonomic profile improves control during heavy-duty tasks.
• Wood reduces cold-hands sensation compared with bare metal handles.
• Simple construction is easy to inspect and maintain in the field.

How does this tool fit into a camping or off-road kit?

This shovel is built as a no-frills, high-performance baseline tool that complements other outdoor gear: pack it in a vehicle emergency kit, stash it with camping equipment, or include it in a trail or overlanding setup for quick ground work. Its combination of cutting and digging capability reduces the need for multiple specialty tools.

• Ideal size and weight for vehicle, pack or beach storage.
• Multi-function blade reduces the need to carry separate saws or hatchets.
• Durable materials mean fewer field failures under stress.
• Local Canadian customer service provides accessible support.
