OPINEL No.07 Colorama folding knife, Purple, Sandvik stainless blade with Virobloc lock

The OPINEL No. 07 Colorama is a compact, stainless-steel folding knife with a secure Virobloc lock and a purple lanyard — designed for everyday slicing tasks, picnics, and easy carry.

Made in the French Alps tradition, the No.07 Colorama pairs a corrosion-resistant Sandvik stainless blade with a smooth, comfortable handle and a simple, reliable lock. Its middleweight size makes it more portable than the No.08 but more capable than the smaller No.06, so it fits a wide range of daily uses — from slicing cheese at an outdoor lunch to opening packages at home.

How sharp and durable is the No. 07 Colorama for everyday tasks?

The blade is crafted from Sandvik 12C27-modified stainless steel, chosen for a good balance of edge retention, ease of sharpening, and resistance to rust. It holds a keen edge for common cutting jobs yet can be quickly re-sharpened with standard sharpening tools.

• Sandvik 12C27-modified stainless for corrosion resistance and sharpness
• Carbon content ensures a keen, serviceable edge that is easy to hone
• Suitable for food prep, light outdoor use, and everyday opening tasks

What makes the Virobloc locking system reliable and easy to use?

OPINEL's patented Virobloc is a rotating steel collar that locks the blade open for safe cutting and locks it closed for secure transport. It’s intuitive: twist to lock or unlock, with a tactile confirmation so you know the blade is fixed in place.

• Rotating steel collar secures blade open or closed
• Simple one-handed operation once familiarized with the twist motion
• Designed since 1955 for dependable everyday safety

How portable and comfortable is this knife for carry and dining?

The No.07 sits between OPINEL’s No.06 and No.08 in size, making it compact enough for pockets and lunch bags while large enough to slice cheese or fruit comfortably. The included purple lanyard adds carry options and makes the knife easy to spot in a bag.

• Compact profile ideal for pockets, picnic baskets, or glove compartments
• Ergonomic wooden handle for a secure, pleasant grip
• Purple lanyard for quick retrieval and added visibility

Why is OPINEL’s Crowned Hand emblem important to this knife?

The Crowned Hand is a historic mark chosen by Joseph Opinel to reflect provenance and craftsmanship. It connects the No.07 Colorama to a long lineage of French knife making and signals a heritage of practical, well-made cutlery.

• Heritage emblem dating back to traditional French blade makers
• Symbolizes quality and manufacturing roots in the French Alps
• Adds a classic design detail that consumers recognize

Who is this for: The OPINEL No. 07 Colorama in purple is for anyone seeking a versatile, well-made folding knife for daily use — outdoor diners, commuters, campers, and home cooks who value a lightweight, reliable blade with simple safety features. If you want a portable knife that combines easy maintenance, trusted locking, and a touch of classic French design, this model is a practical choice.
