Hydro-Shield’s skeg-mounted shield is a thermoplastic hydrofoil and guard that bolts to your outboard or sterndrive skeg to protect the prop and lower unit while improving planing and handling.
Designed for recreational and workboats with outboards or inboard/outboard sterndrives, this L35-series shield system fits a wide range of engines (100–425 HP) and comes in four sizes to match hull and power combinations. Built from energy-absorbing thermoplastic and paired with a marine-grade stainless steel bracket kit, the unit minimizes underwater impact damage, helps your boat get on plane sooner, and supports lower RPM cruising for increased efficiency. The product is made in the USA and includes all necessary fasteners for a straightforward installation.
The L35 compatibility covers outboards and sterndrives between 100 and 425 horsepower and is intended for boats over 18 feet. A separate R-size hydrofoil is available specifically for pontoons up to 26 feet and 115 HP. Confirm fit with the compatibility chart before ordering.
By acting as a hydrofoil, the skeg-mounted shield helps lift the bow and reduce wetted surface area when accelerating and cruising at low-to-mid RPMs. That means quicker plane-ups and the ability to maintain cruise speeds at reduced throttle, which can translate to better fuel economy in those ranges.
The shield’s energy-absorbing thermoplastic disperses impact forces from submerged objects, helping prevent bent skegs, damaged props, and compromised lower-unit gear. The included stainless steel bracket system reinforces the skeg area and holds the shield securely in place.
Installation is a simple two-step process that most owners can complete in about 20–25 minutes. Each kit is supplied with a marine-grade stainless steel bracket system, bolts, lock nuts, and instructions—no additional hardware typically required.
Who is this for? Owners of larger recreational and work boats (18' and up) who operate with outboard or sterndrive motors between 100–425 HP and want tangible protection for their prop and lower unit, plus improved planing and handling. It also appeals to boaters concerned about reducing harm to marine life—Hydro-Shield’s design helps prevent prop strikes to animals and sensitive vegetation. Choose your size using the compatibility chart and consider the R-size if you’re fitting a pontoon up to 26' with 115 HP or less.
Q: How long does installation take?
A: Typical installation requires about 20–25 minutes and uses basic hand tools; the kit includes all hardware.
Q: Will this fit my 150 HP Yamaha outboard?
A: Most 100–425 HP Yamaha outboards are L35-compatible; check the included compatibility chart for your exact model and year.
