SOG FastHawk throwing hatchet, Fast Hawk - Hardcased Black, 12.5-inch, 2-inch 420 stainless blade, nylon sheath

The SOG FastHawk is a compact, 12.5-inch tactical throwing hatchet designed to be light, fast, and highly versatile for outdoor, competition, and everyday survival use.

Built to deliver speed and utility, the FastHawk pairs a 2-inch 420 stainless steel blade with a robust ballistic polymer handle and a steel ferrule. A matte black oxide finish reduces glare and hides wear, while the included nylon sheath makes carry simple whether you mount it to a belt or pack. At about 19 ounces, this hawk aims to balance portability with practical chopping, piercing, and hammering functionality.

How does the FastHawk perform for camp chores and light chopping?

The FastHawk is trimmed for short, accurate swings rather than heavy felling. Its 2-inch edge and 420 stainless steel head handle small limbs, kindling, and light notching tasks, giving you a compact tool that fits in tight spaces and backpack setups.

• 2-inch razor-sharp blade for slicing and trimming small wood
• Flat hammer edge for driving tent stakes or pounding wedges
• Balance favors control—ideal for precision cuts and feathering
• Lightweight 19-ounce profile reduces fatigue during long hikes

Can I use the FastHawk for throwing or competition?

Yes—the FastHawk’s shorter length and light weight make it suitable for throwing practice and competition where speed and repeatable rotation matter. Its shape and balance are tuned to allow predictable flight when you train consistently.

• 12.5-inch overall length optimized for quick rotations
• Consistent balance point supports repeatable throws
• Durable black oxide finish resists chips and reduces glare
• Includes sheath for safe carry between throws

What construction features make the FastHawk durable and safe?

Durability comes from a combination of a 420 stainless steel head, heavy-duty mounting bolts, and a steel ferrule at the handle junction to prevent splitting. The ballistic polymer handle is textured for a secure grip, and side hammer checkering improves control when striking.

• 420 stainless steel head with black oxide coating for corrosion resistance
• Steel ferrule and heavy bolts secure blade to handle
• Textured polymer handle for slip-free control in wet conditions
• Nylon sheath with belt loop for safe transport and storage

How easy is the FastHawk to carry and maintain?

At roughly 19 ounces, the FastHawk is designed to be carried comfortably on a pack or belt without adding excess bulk. Maintenance is straightforward: clean and dry after use, lightly oil the edge to resist surface rust, and store in the supplied sheath to protect the blade and gear.

• Lightweight for backpacking and long treks
• Belt-loop sheath fits 1.5-inch belts and pack straps
• Simple cleaning and edge care preserves performance
• SOG lifetime support for manufacturing defects

Who is this for? The SOG FastHawk is targeted at outdoorspeople who want a compact, multi-use hawk for camping, backpacking, and competitive throwing, plus handymen and first responders who need a quick, maneuverable tool. If you prioritize speed, portability, and precision over heavy-duty tree-felling power, this hatchet offers a well-balanced combination of features for field use, practice sessions, and everyday carry in harsh environments.
