Whether you’re smoothing minor gelcoat blemishes or evening out surface imperfections on composite parts, this quart kit provides a buttery, trowelable paste that mixes with the included MEKP catalyst and cures to a hard, sandable finish in as little as 20–30 minutes at 77°F. The product is formulated for cosmetic fairing—minimal shrinkage, easy feathering, and low odor make it a practical choice for boaters, repair shops and mold builders who need quick turnaround before priming or re-gelcoating.
At a typical shop temperature (77°F), mixed Polyester Fairing Compound begins to set rapidly, reaching a hard, sandable state in roughly 20–30 minutes when mixed with the recommended MEKP amount. Working time is short—plan small sections or use rapid application techniques.
This polyester fairing filler is engineered for cosmetic surface work on gelcoat, fiberglass and other composite surfaces above the waterline. It’s ideal for filling print-through, hairline spider cracks, pinholes and sanding marks, but it’s not intended as a structural repair on deep gouges.
The compound’s thick, creamy consistency spreads smoothly with a trowel or spreader and holds on vertical surfaces without sagging, which helps you build uniform feather edges. Once cured, it sands easily using progressively finer grits to achieve a pinhole-free base ready for primer, paint or gelcoat.
Polyester Fairing Compound is formulated for above-waterline cosmetic work; if used below the waterline it must be overcoated with an approved epoxy barrier coat to prevent water ingress and adhesion issues. Always follow MEKP handling precautions and work in a well-ventilated area while wearing appropriate PPE.
Who is this for: TotalBoat Polyester Fairing Compound Quart Kit is aimed at boat owners, professional marine repair technicians, and composite fabricators who need a fast-setting, easy-to-sand fairing material for above-waterline cosmetic repairs and mold finishing. If you require structural rebuilding, pair this compound with a high-strength structural putty first; for quick, high-quality surface finishing and minimal rework, this kit is a practical, USA-made choice.
Features:
Q: Can I use this compound below the waterline?
A: Only if you first apply an epoxy barrier coat over the cured polyester; otherwise it’s intended for above-waterline cosmetic repairs.
Q: How much MEKP catalyst should I add?
A: Add about 14–16 drops of MEKP per ounce of compound at 77°F for a 10–15 minute working time and roughly 20–30 minute cure.
