Mr. Heater portable propane radiant heater Hunting Buddy 12,000 BTU — 2 heat settings, ODS safety

The Mr. Heater 12,000 BTU Hunting Buddy Heater is a compact, portable propane radiant heater that delivers up to 12,000 BTU to warm small outdoor spaces safely and quickly.

If you spend time on decks, in hunting blinds, on boats, or at campsites during chilly weather, this lightweight heater is designed to provide immediate radiant warmth without bulky installation. It runs on a 1-lb propane cylinder for easy setup and can be adapted to a 20-lb tank with optional accessories. Built-in safety features help reduce risk during use, and two heat settings let you balance runtime and output.

How much area can this heater warm and how powerful is it?

The Hunting Buddy produces selectable outputs of approximately 6,000 or 12,000 BTU per hour, providing effective radiant heat for confined outdoor areas. Radiant heat warms objects and people directly, making it feel warmer faster than ambient-only heat sources.

• Up to 12,000 BTU on high, 6,000 BTU on low
• Designed to heat spaces up to around 300 sq ft in outdoor or semi-enclosed settings
• Radiant burner delivers direct heat to people and surfaces, not large-volume air heating

How do I fuel and operate the heater?

Operation is straightforward: attach a 1-lb propane cylinder for true portability or use optional fittings to connect to a 20-lb tank for extended runtime. A single control knob with a match-light ignition makes startup simple—turn the knob and light the burner with a match.

• Connects directly to a 1-lb disposable propane bottle (included by retailers separately)
• Optional adapter accessories allow use with a 20-lb tank for longer use
• Single control start knob with match-light for easy ignition and two heat settings

What safety features does this portable heater include?

Safety is built into the Hunting Buddy with an array of protective systems that reduce hazards during typical outdoor use. While these features add protection, always follow the owner’s manual regarding ventilation and approved accessory use.

• Oxygen Depletion Sensor (ODS) to help prevent use in dangerously low-oxygen environments
• Thermal shut-off to stop operation if overheating is detected
• Tip-over switch that shuts the unit off if it falls

How long will a 1-lb propane bottle last and where is it best used?

Run time depends on the heat setting: a single 1-lb cylinder can power the heater for up to about three hours on the high setting. The unit is intended for outdoor and well-ventilated situations such as hunting blinds, patios, docks, and campsites rather than enclosed indoor spaces.

• Up to approximately three hours on high from a 1-lb bottle (actual time varies with conditions)
• Ideal for short outdoor gatherings, hunting blinds, shore fishing, and quick campsite warmth
• Not intended for use in fully enclosed indoor spaces; follow ventilation guidance in the manual
