Nitecore NU21 Ultralight Rechargeable Headlamp, White, 360 Lumens, 44 g, USB-C with Red Light Mode

The Nitecore NU21 is an ultra-lightweight, USB-C rechargeable headlamp that puts out up to 360 lumens of soft, uniform white light for night running, route finding, and hands-free outdoor tasks.

Designed to balance output, comfort, and portability, the NU21 updates Nitecore's NU Series with a slim housing, a unibody optical lens for even beam distribution, and a built-in 500mAh battery. At just 44 grams (1.55 oz) it slips into a pocket or clips onto a pack, while the reflective, glow-in-the-dark headband improves visibility to others. A red beam mode, one-handed operation, and USB-C charging make it a compact, modern choice for people who need reliable illumination without bulk.

How bright is the Nitecore NU21 and what does its beam look like?

The NU21 produces a maximum of 360 lumens via high-performance LEDs and a unibody optical lens that emphasizes smooth, even lighting rather than a harsh hotspot. That design helps reduce eye strain and creates a forgiving flood for close-to-moderate distances — ideal for running trails, campsite tasks, or map reading.

• Peak output: 360 lumens for short bursts or higher-visibility situations.
• Soft, even flood beam for comfortable near-field illumination.
• Red light mode for low-light map reading, night vision preservation, and signaling.
• Unibody lens with >94% light transmission ensures efficient light use.

What are the battery, charging, and power-management features?

The NU21 houses a 500mAh Li-ion cell and recharges via a USB-C port for fast, reversible connections and broad charger compatibility. It offers cycle charging that reduces single-use battery waste and a lockout mode to prevent accidental activation during transport.

• Built-in 500mAh rechargeable battery — no AAA needed.
• USB-C input supports convenient, modern charging setups.
• Battery level indicator and simple one-handed controls for quick checks.
• Lockout mode prevents unintended power drain in bags or pockets.

How does the NU21 perform for runners and other outdoor users?

At 44g, the NU21 is engineered to be barely noticeable on a headband or hat, making it suited to activities where weight and balance matter. The headband is lightweight, reflective, and partially glow-in-the-dark to improve visibility to road users and fellow trail-goers, while the red LED expands its use cases beyond simple white illumination.

• Ultra-light 44g weight minimizes bounce and neck strain during movement.
• Reflective and glow-in-the-dark headband increases on-route visibility.
• Red beam option for map reading, signaling, and night-friendly tasks.
• Compact footprint fits in pockets, belt packs, or small gear pouches.

How easy is the NU21 to operate and maintain?

The NU21 emphasizes simplicity: one-hand operation changes modes and checks battery status, while the durable lens and sealed housing keep maintenance minimal. USB-C charging removes the need to carry spare disposables, and the headlamp’s construction is made for everyday outdoor use.

• Single-button control for quick, intuitive operation.
• Durable unibody optical lens resists misalignment and simplifies cleaning.
• USB-C charging reduces reliance on disposable batteries over time.
• Lockout feature protects against accidental activation during travel.

Who this is for: the Nitecore NU21 is a smart pick for runners, hikers, commuters, and outdoor enthusiasts who want a lightweight, rechargeable headlamp that prioritizes even, comfortable illumination and low carry weight. It also suits anyone replacing disposable battery headlamps who prefers a compact USB-C rechargeable solution with added safety features like reflective bands and a lockout mode.
