BLACK DIAMOND RockLock HMS Screwgate Locking Carabiner, Black, Large Gate and Keylock Nose

The BLACK DIAMOND RockLock Screwgate is a large, screwgate locking carabiner designed for belaying, rappelling, and anchor systems that need generous gate clearance and snag-free handling.

Built as Black Diamond’s largest HMS-style locking carabiner, the RockLock Screwgate provides roomy internal space for knots, belay devices and multiple connectors while keeping operation simple and reliable. Its keylock nose reduces the chance of snagging when clipping or unclipping, and the ergonomic screwgate and spine make single-handed use straightforward even with gloves. Lightweight yet robust, this carabiner pairs with ATC-style belay devices, Munter hitches and multi-point anchor setups for climbing, mountaineering and technical rescue tasks where secure connections and smooth handling matter.

How does the RockLock handle big belay devices and knots?

The wide, asymmetric HMS shape gives ample room for bulky devices, thick knots and double ropes. This extra capacity prevents pinching and makes device feeds more predictable under load.

• Large gate and roomy interior for ATC-style belay devices
• Fits knots and multiple carabiners without overcrowding
• Improves rope movement and reduces device wear

Will the keylock nose really stop snagging during clipping?

The keylock nose eliminates the hooked lip found on some carabiners so ropes, slings and hardware pass by smoothly. That reduces accidental catches when organizing gear or transferring loads at anchors.

• Smooth profile prevents rope and sling catches
• Faster clipping and unclipping under pressure
• Cleaner operation when building anchors or rigging belays

Can I operate the screwgate with one hand or while wearing gloves?

Yes — the ergonomic spine and threaded screwgate are sized for confident one-handed opening and locking, even with bulky gloves. This makes on-route transitions and rope management quicker and safer.

• Screwgate threads are easy to engage and verify by feel
• Shaped spine supports single-handed use of devices and hitches
• Reliable locking action reduces the chance of accidental opening

Is the RockLock suitable for technical climbing and rescue work?

Designed for a range of demanding applications, the RockLock’s strength and capacity suit rock climbing, alpine routes and many rescue scenarios where a large locking connector is needed. It’s built to withstand repeated use and to interface with standard climbing hardware.

• Large capacity for multi-point anchor setups
• Durable construction for frequent field use
• Compatible with common belay techniques and rescue rigging
