The YY Vertical VerticalBoard First is a poplar wood hangboard with 10 ergonomically rounded grips (20–45mm), slopers, jugs and a central notch for band-assisted training — built for steady progression.
Designed as the step up from an introductory model, the VerticalBoard First gives intermediate climbers a structured, low-risk way to move into focused fingerboard sessions. It balances multiple edge depths with comfortable radiused holds so you can increase intensity without harsh edges or painful skin wear. The board ships ready to mount with screws and clear instructions, and pairs with YY Vertical accessories when you want to expand mounting or difficulty options.
The board offers five calibrated edge depths (45, 33, 25, 22 and 20 mm) plus two inclined slopers, two larger jugs, and a central plug. That range lets you structure progressive loading: start on larger edges or jugs, then move to shallower edges and slopers as finger strength improves. The variety supports mixed sessions that train open-hand, half-crimp and sloper technique without needing multiple boards.
Every hold profile uses soft angles and rounded transitions developed with physiotherapy guidance to reduce tendon pinch and skin abrasion. The ergonomic contours let you train often while minimizing the sharp-edge stress that causes overuse problems. Because the wood is untreated poplar, it feels natural and predictable on the skin from the first session.
The central notch is sized for elastic bands or cable attachments, which makes assisted hangs and unloaded repetitions simple and secure. It also functions well for unilateral pull-ups and lock-off work, letting you vary stimulus without swapping boards. When you need harder holds, magnetic inserts (sold separately) are supported so you can reduce effective depth incrementally.
The VerticalBoard First measures 54 × 13 × 5 cm and weighs about 920 g, making it compact enough for home walls yet robust for regular use. Each package includes four wall screws and an illustrated guide so you can mount quickly and safely. Packaging is reinforced and recyclable to protect the board in transit.
Who is this for? The VerticalBoard First is aimed at climbers who have moved beyond basic play on campus rails and want a safe, manageable progression into structured finger training. It suits indoor boulderers and sport climbers who need varied grips and ergonomic designs to train frequently without aggressive edges. If you plan to develop finger strength methodically and want a platform that grows with your sessions — from band-assisted reps to unassisted hangs and later magnetic inserts — this board is a practical, well-balanced choice.
Q: Can I mount this hangboard on drywall?
A: Yes if you secure it into studs or use proper heavy-duty anchors; the kit includes Ø6mm × 50mm screws for stud mounting.
Q: Are magnetic inserts included?
A: No—magnetic inserts are compatible but sold separately so you can increase difficulty later.
