BLACK DIAMOND RockLock Carabiner, Gray Screwgate — Large HMS locking carabiner for belay and rappel

The BLACK DIAMOND RockLock Screwgate is a large, hot-forged aluminum locking carabiner engineered for secure belays, rappelling, and anchor systems.

Built as Black Diamond’s biggest locking carabiner, the RockLock Screwgate combines generous internal space, a snag-resistant keylock nose, and one-handed screwgate operation to handle knots, belay devices, and multiple rope configurations with confidence. Its heavy-duty yet lightweight construction makes it suitable for indoor gym use, multi-pitch sport routes, mountaineering, and technical ropework where a roomy, reliable connector is needed.

How does the RockLock help when belaying or rappelling?

The wide HMS-style shape accepts clove hitches, Munter hitches, and most belay devices without crowding, simplifying rope management on both single- and multi-rope systems. The screwgate secures the gate opening to reduce the chance of accidental release during critical moves.

• Large internal volume fits bulky knots and ATC-style devices
• Rounded spine improves device alignment and handling
• Screwgate locks gate for added security during belays and lowers
• Keylock nose reduces snags when clipping or unclipping

Is the construction durable enough for outdoor climbing and guiding?

Yes — the RockLock’s hot-forged aluminum body offers an excellent strength-to-weight ratio for repetitive outdoor use. It resists deformation under load while remaining light enough to carry on long routes or guide rotations.

• Hot-forged aluminum for reliable structural integrity
• Engineered to withstand typical climber and guide workloads
• Corrosion-resistant finish suited for varied environments
• Designed for long-term use in both gym and alpine settings

What makes the gate and nose design user-friendly?

The keylock nose eliminates catch points so ropes and slings glide past the gate cleanly when clipping or unclipping. The screwgate profile and ergonomic spine permit single-handed operation, even with gloves or cold hands, making transitions faster and safer.

• Keylock nose prevents accidental snags with rope and gear
• Screwgate offers tactile, secure closure that’s easy to verify
• Ergonomic spine enhances grip and one-handed manipulation
• Smooth gate action reduces fumbling during maneuvers

How versatile is this carabiner for different ropework tasks?

The RockLock is suitable for a wide range of climbing-related uses: belaying, rappelling, building anchors, guiding, and rescue applications that require a large-capacity locking connector. It pairs well with both single- and double-rope techniques and is compatible with common belay devices.

• Works with ATC-style and similar belay devices
• Accepts knots and multiple ropes for anchor building
• Useful in rescue and rigging setups needing robust connectors
• A practical choice for both sport and trad climbing setups

Who is this for? Climbers, guides, and rope-rescue technicians who need a roomy, dependable locking carabiner will appreciate the BLACK DIAMOND RockLock Screwgate. It’s aimed at users who value easy handling under load, compatibility with a variety of belay techniques, and a durable, snag-free gate for efficient clipping and unclipping. If you regularly practice multi-pitch climbing, instruct or guide parties, or set up anchors where device space matters, this RockLock provides a robust, versatile connector to add to your rack.
