PETZL TIKKID kids headlamp Pink, 20-lumen child-safe LED with breakaway strap

The Petzl TIKKID is a compact, child-focused headlamp that delivers gentle 20-lumen white light, simple one-button control, and built-in safety features for children aged three and up.

Designed from the ground up for little users, the TIKKID balances visibility with eye safety, limiting output so light is comfortable for sensitive young eyes while still useful for play, reading, and being seen. Lightweight and weather resistant, this pink headlamp is easy for kids to operate and includes mechanical protections — like a screw-secured battery compartment and a breakaway strap — that help parents feel confident leaving it with their children.

How bright is the TIKKID and what can kids do with it?

The TIKKID produces a modest maximum of 20 lumens and offers three modes suited to common kids’ activities. Its low setting is good for close-up tasks, the high setting gives a bit more reach, and a strobe mode increases visibility at a distance.

• Low: 4 lumens, about 3 meters useful range, long runtime for reading or close play.
• High: up to 20 lumens, about 7 meters useful range for outdoor play and short trails.
• Strobe: high-visibility flash that can be seen from far away for safety and signaling.

What safety features protect children while using this headlamp?

Petzl built several child-specific protections into the TIKKID to reduce hazards and make it suitable for young users. The design minimizes access to small parts and reduces the risk from the elastic strap in active environments.

• Battery compartment fastened with a screw to prevent accidental opening and contact with batteries.
• Breakaway elastic headband that releases when pulled to lower choking risk from entanglement.
• Low maximum brightness and appropriate light output to limit discomfort for sensitive eyes.

How easy is it for kids and parents to use and maintain?

Operation is straightforward: a single button cycles through modes so children can switch light levels without confusion. For parents, the TIKKID includes convenience and conservation features that make it practical for everyday use.

• One-button control for quick mode changes that most children can manage independently.
• Automatic shutoff after one hour helps save battery life when kids forget to turn it off.
• Includes three AAA batteries but also accepts the Petzl CORE rechargeable battery (sold separately) for longer-term use.

Is the headlamp durable enough for outdoor play and light weather?

The TIKKID is built to handle typical kid activities and light exposure to the elements, with simple protections against splashes and a robust, lightweight construction.

• IPX4 splash-resistant rating suitable for rain and splashed water during outdoor play.
• Weighs about 80 g, making it comfortable and stable on a child's head.
• Phosphorescent reflector on the unit makes it easier to find at night without relying on batteries.

Who is this for? The Petzl TIKKID is best for parents, caregivers, and group leaders looking for a purpose-built light for young children aged three and older. It fits families who want a responsibly limited brightness for eye comfort, clear safety mechanisms to prevent access to batteries and reduce entanglement risk, and a unit simple enough for a child to operate alone. It’s ideal for bedtime reading, neighborhood play after dusk, sleepovers, and outings where a lightweight, easy-to-find light is useful. For families who prefer rechargeable options, the lamp accepts Petzl’s CORE battery (sold separately), while the included AAA batteries let you use it straight away.
